Conversation with Perry and Justin! Comfort vs. Competition!

Hi All,

May flowers are blooming, pollen is in the air, and the school year (for those of you who are/have kids) is coming to a close. Summer can't come soon enough and it's finally right around the corner! As the summer arrives, you all will see a variety of content from us here at Sigma Swimming, so please stay tuned. Last week's post on "Training Ugly" was a great example of material that can apply to ALL facets of our lives so please make sure to check it out. This week, it'll be a mostly short post because we want you all to check out some content we've been putting together! Our very own Perry (adult lessons) and Justin (age group swimming) have a discussion about some discrepancies between learning and competing, among other topics, so take a look below!

With this video, our goal was to reach out to new swimmers, long-time swimmers, and instructors/coaches, alike! We'll be breaking it down into segmented pieces in the coming weeks so stay tuned on our YouTube page. Without going into too much detail, the conversation sparked between Perry and Justin when they disagreed upon which was the engine in swimming - the arms or the legs, respectively. From there, an idea sprouted and they got in front of the camera to have a conversation about different aspects of competitive versus comfort swimming. As for the rest, we recommend you all check it out! It's a great opportunity to see some of our staff interact in their element and about swimming topics that they're very passionate about. Don't forget to comment with any questions/thoughts you may have!

Fact of the week: Sigma Swimming has an intrinsic desire to remain dynamic, accessible, and inclusive to all those who love/want to take up swimming. Our staff holds a sustained intellectual curiosity to better ourselves while also educating our peers! Whether you're just dipping your toe in or preparing to dive in a Junior nationals, there will ALWAYS be a place for you. The content, just like this discussion and ones down the road, operates to bridge the gap across all skill levels and create a safe space for everyone to feel included. Stay tuned and check out YouTube for more!

How does my child move up? Come to every swim class, bring your progress report, earn those stickers, and ask your child's instructor or location's deck manager if you have questions.

How do I move up? Attend as many of your classes as possible, communicate with your instructor on your struggles, goals, and where you're at in our curriculum. We also have many adults who purchase a gym membership to 24 Hour Fitness or LA Fitness while they are taking lessons so they can practice 2-3 times between classes.

Welcome to our world, brought to you! Glad your swimmer is learning to swim with us!

The Sigma Team
