Sigma Featured Staff Member Of The Week

Zoe is one of our coaches at Sigma Swim School Fort Worth Central (TWU). Today we interviewed her focusing on coaching and motivation. Zoe swims for Boswell High School, and recently competed in the 5A State Swimming Championships, representing Boswell.

Q: How and why did you become involved in the sport swimming?

A: I actually used to do soccer and gymnastics, but I had an injury to my Achilles tendon and this is why I started swimming and I fell in love with it!!


Q: What do you hope your swimmers will learn from you?

A: I hope that they would learn what it means to be passionate about something while also enjoying it.


Q: What does coaching the sport of swimming mean to you?

A: Coaching swimming to me means teaching swimmers how to trust the water and have fun with it.


Q: How did you stay motivated in the sport growing up, and how do you keep your swimmers motivated?

A: I always try to remain positive to keep myself motivated even when things got tough.

Q: What is your favorite thing about coaching the sport and your favorite thing about your swimmers?

Q: Who do you think are one or more of the greatest swimmers ever and why?

A: Missy Franklin!!! Despite the negative things in her swimming career she always manages to have a smile on her face!


Q: What do you tell a young child that is afraid of the water at his/her first swim lesson and how do you try to make it less scary for them?

A: I always try to keep things fun to help them trust the water. We actually do "smile bobs" with my younger swimmers and all of a sudden being in the water is a happy place!

Q: How do you prepare a swimmer for his/her first USA swim meet?

A: By working on the little things that will make a big difference, like turns and breathing.


Q: What is your favorite thing about being around your swimmers and the atmosphere of Sigma?

A: I love the close-knit family of Sigma.


Q: What do you like to do when you are not coaching?

A: I love hiking and running with my puppy.
