Fact of the week: The swimming "taper" is the art and science of tapering/reducing/decreasing a swimmer's training volume (how much) and intensity (how hard). The purpose of tapering is to help a swimmer sharpen mentally, physically, and emotionally for the big meet/competition. There are a multitude of ways to taper a swimmer. Some swimmers need almost no taper (e.g. swimmers 12-and-under) while other swimmers need days or weeks (e.g. 16-and-over males who are muscular).

Stay warm and see you at the pool!
